The End...
So, after 858 hours at sea and 5567 nautical miles, we’ve come to the end of our cruise. A cruise during which we collected 199 biological samples (including 36 species of live coral), 6700 fossil corals (as well as 5 kg Solenosmilia, 65 kg Stylasterids and 2.2 kg Octocorals) and 133 sponge specimens. We carried out 40 dredges, 9 Towcams, 10 trawls and 3 CTD casts. We collected 569 liters of seawater and 345 kg of rocks. 794 multibeam data files edited; 45 hours of seismics were shot and 158 MB of e-mails were sent. Dann Blackwood took 4431 photos, of which 276 were sent to CenSeam. We munched our way through 200 kg chicken, 260 kg beef, 100 kg sugar, 120 loaves of bread, 260 kg vegetables, 120 kg potatoes, 100 kg rice, 40 kg cheese, 7200 eggs, 160 kg butter, 200 kg flour and drank our way through 350 liters of milk and 15 kg coffee. Sixty-six (official) games of Twister were played, over 100 cans of Pringles were consumed and our PIs (Laura Robinson and Rhian Waller) ate 12 bars of chocolate between them (not enough!).
It’s been a busy cruise, but we’re glad you could join us on our journey and learn a few things about corals and seamounts along the way.
