Deckhand

What does a typical day involve?

Different jobs helping scientific staff (12 hour shift).

What do you enjoy the most?

Eating and playing scrabble, watching a good movie.

What’s the least enjoyable aspect of your work?

Working in cold and rough weather.

Do you get seasick? Any tips for not getting ill?

Not for ages, don’t sail hung-over in rough weather.

What is your favourite memory from working on the ship?

Going to Antarctica for the 1st time.

What do you do when off shift, and in your spare time at home?

On board the ship I send e-mails, play scrabble, watch DVDs, sleep, and read. Off the ship I like to go diving, fishing as well as socialising, drinkies and BBQs with family and friends.
