Meet Glen "Glenbo" Walker

How long have you worked on the Tangaroa?

14 years.

What is your job?

Leading hand (watch leader)

What does a typical day involve?

Doing bridge watches, maintenance, and making sure things run smoothly on deck.

What do you enjoy the most?

Going home after any trip

What’s the least enjoyable aspect of your work?

Leaving my wife and children for long periods of time.

Do you get seasick? Any tips for not getting ill?

I don’t get seasick on this ship but on the Kaharoa I do get sick every now and then. Just keep eating, its better to have something to bring up!

What is your favourite memory from working on the ship?

Underwater volcanoes on the Kermadec ridge – great trip, great people (GNS and NIWA), great weather.

What do you do when off shift, and in your spare time at home?

On shift I read or watch DVDs or sometimes just watch what the other shift are doing. At home I like to go fishing and do work around my house and do as much as possible with my two daughters (Jordyn and Kendall) and wife.
