What does a typical day involve?
The work that we do depends on the voyage programme. If we are trawling then shooting/hauling/mending or setting up trawl gear as well as wire splicing and fish processing in the onboard factory. Basically on any given voyage programme I liaise with the scientists and technicians with regards to whatever they require in order to facilitate the successful implementation of their work.
What do you enjoy the most?
Working in the Northern Latitudes, the seas are warm and calm
Whats the least enjoyable aspect of your work?
Rough weather and long sea voyages
Do you get seasick? Any tips for not getting ill?
Not on the Tangaroa but have felt ill on the other NIWA vessel, the Kaharoa
What is your favourite memory from working on the ship?
Getting a pay rise!
What do you do when not working?
I watch videos and learn, as well as playing games on my PC
