What does a typical day involve?
Cooking for up to 40 people, stock taking and the ordering of the food.
What do you enjoy the most?
The time off.
What’s the least enjoyable aspect of your work?
I enjoy the work, however, sometimes it can become relentless from working 12 to 16 hours a day, always chasing the clock as meals have to be out on time.
Do you get seasick? Any tips for not getting ill?
No.
What is your favourite memory from working on the ship?
We get to meet interesting people and to go to some interesting places.
What do you do when off shift, and in your spare time at home?
Off shift I paint, draw, go to the gym, and watch DVDs, but mostly catch up on sleep.
At home I renovate my house. I’ve just finished rebuilding a boat and plan to use it for cruising, and there is lots of time for travel.
